Catching a Car

A man’s dog used to sit on the side of the road waiting for cars to come around. As soon as one came, he would run down the road, barking and trying to overtake it. One day a neighbor passing by saw the scene, smiled and asked the dog’s owner, “Do you think your dog is ever going to catch a car?”

The man replied, “That is not important. The most important question is if he ever caught one, what he would do with it.”

Just like that dog, many of us pursue meaningless goals.
