Deborah Ehlers
Management Trainer and Consultant

Deborah is a fully qualified Chartered Accountant, accounting specialist and an experienced trainer. She is passionate about accounting as well as learning and development. Her strong finance background coupled with time spent teaching in Abu Dhabi, and her wide experience in financial analysis, soft skills training and consulting, ensure she brings a wealth of expertise to the training room.

She studied in South Africa where she attained a B.Com (Hons) in Accounting Sciences from the University of Pretoria, a Certificate in the Theory of Accounting from University of South Africa and became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) in 2009. She also holds a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).

Deborah has been doing accounting work since high school when she did basic bookkeeping as a part time job and therefore has experience at all levels.

Her fulltime career started as a Trainee Accountant in one of the world’s leading independent assurance and advisory firms, where she quickly progressed to become a Senior Accountant responsible for planning, execution and reporting on audits.  She was in charge of statutory audits for companies in various industries including the motor, healthcare, legal, real estate and retail industries, and was responsible for the audit of critical audit objectives including Revenue, Inventory, Provisions, Financial Instruments, Payables, Payroll, Assets and Taxation. 

She continued her career at a furniture logistics and distribution company as a Special Accountant, where she set-up the accounting process for customer claims and the related provisions resulting in cost savings for the company and increased efficiency.  She developed a strategy to assist the company in obtaining quality certification and drawing up policies to promote equality in the workplace and develop core skills and competencies in employees to enable them to develop and progress in their careers.

Deborah started her teaching and training career on moving to the UAE in 2012. She taught English at an International Language school before moving over to training where she could combine her passions of accounting and teaching. She has also worked for a university as an external marker for honours level accounting enabling her to stay up to date on the latest accounting standards. Over her career Deborah has developed an appreciation of different personalities and business environments together with a high level of adaptability and drive. Her training sessions are full of practical tips and techniques which ensure all delegates understand what is needed to apply the concepts in the workplace.

Deborah has delivered a wide range of courses including Financial Management Courses such as Financial Awareness, Basic Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Cash Flow Management, Effective Budgeting and Cost Control as well as training in Team Building, Communication, Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Stress Management and Business Writing.
